What?!
HEATH LEDGER found dead.

I normally wouldn't write about this, but I feel like Heath Ledger was part of my life. I suppose everyone under the age of twenty-five practically grew up watching him on the screen.

It's horribly tragic. He was just so young.

I don't know what to say really. I could never imagine him dying now. Like, it feels as if this is a news reel from a dream. He was just taken for granted.

Rest in peace, Heath.

What is INDIE? You tell me.
I am currently working on a project for my graphic design class, and it involves packaging a subculture. Now, whether or not you think of Indie as a culture or subculture is entirely up to you. I just want to know what you think INDIE is.

You can give me a definition. You can comment with photos. You can rant about suits. Whatever. I just want your opinion, and I will include it in the final project giving you full credit. If you want to be anonymous, that is fine as well. Just let me know.

So, what is INDIE?

I hate to do it, but...
I'm cutting off a few friends. These people would be:
a) Mainly those who never post.
b) People who rarely comment (Don't fear this one, because if I actually enjoy your entries, I'm keeping you.)
c) People who have vanished off the face of the earth.

No hard feelings. I just have to get rid of this clutter.

"I'm still single!" (Graham Colton Band -Tuscaloosa, AL 8/27/05)
No more Graham in Alabama.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

You only get three pictures. Sorry. )
This set was far less impressive than the City Stages one. Graham showed up drunk, or so he claimed. There was too much flirting with underage girls. That's real classy, sir. This grostequely huge guy stood in front of us. UA's lighting kept going out, and Aben blew out the amp UA had provided. I danced to "First Week", and Graham laughed at me. That was probably the highlight. We tried meeting the guys afterwards. We were about to leave, and when driving past their van, we saw them signing and talking. So, I made a real quick U turn (I'm sure no one wants to ride in the car with me anymore) to find parking. We run across a median trying to avoid traffic, and then we were told to leave. Aben was watching from afar in their van, and Kelley claims that he tried to get out, but the UA people told him to sit down.

Punks.

Jordan is not very friendly either. He was walking by us on our way out, and Kelley goes, "Hey, you were real good". *mumbles* "Yeah, thanks..." *walks off with cigarrette* Maybe he was just tired. I shouldn't be mean.

Kelley wanted me to bring them to the W, cause I attempted last year, but no luck. Especially, after tonight. I never want to see them again.

Okay, maybe Aben Eubanks cause he freakin' kicks ass on guitar!

That is all.

Just because...
Nicole: "What was the point of the whole W thing they were doing? How do you do that?"
Me: "It's for Weezer. It's sort of like the Wings' symbol..." *whips out flying W*
Nicole: "What? That's stupid. Who came up with that?"
Me: "A fan, I guess...I'm not sure."
Nicole: "I can't do that." *tries to make the flying W symbol, but fails miserably because of some index finger deformity*
Me: *goes around making flying W symbol just to irritate her* "You know how to type it out online don't you? You use an equal sign, then a w, and another equal sign."

*awkward silence*

Nicole: "You have no life."

Weezer and the Bravery (July 16, 2005 - Downtown Rocks! Atlanta, GA)
The complete STORY )

Because of the excessive amount of photos I took, I decided to place them all on my Flckr.com account. The Weezer photos are at the beginning, and the Bravery pics start on page 2 or 3. You can leave comments and little notes on the photos if you like. It's "fun". One day, when I'm not lazy, I'll try to post them in an organized manner on here.

(The crowd that seemed to stretch on and on.)

Here's a few teasers for you though )

The Killers. Yes, almost a year later...the full review and pics I intended to have the last two times we were supposed to see them. Read more... )

The evening was not a complete failure. During the Killers' set, Ludacris walked by, and laughed at my sister's dancing. Michael Tolcher stopped and chatted with Kelley. He even stroked her hand. ha ha ha...That child can die happy now! We met some really great people, and we will probably never see them again, but without them we probably would have given up on the Killers all over again.

I'm going to be upfront with this entry and state that it is probably full of fangirlish comments. I can't help that, and I apologize if you can only make it through half of it. If you knew how much this band meant to me and how their music has changed my life, you would understand. I have warned you though, and you can't complain.

Kings of Leon w/The Features (3/19/05)
I'm extremely tired, and I will update with pictures later when I actually get around to editing them. I have some great clips too, but they don't have sound. I'm hoping to make a small movie with music and effects. Should be a waste of time fun!

*EDIT* Pictures have been added. I apologize for my contrast happiness and photobucket's ghettoness. They look good though. I promise. I have more, but I think these turned out the best. Enjoy.

Quick synopsis:

More of the Features, please! )

The Features were AMAZING! I really wished they had played a longer set. The crowd seemed to really enjoy them. I mocked my friends for purchasing their album so late, but I'm glad that every single one of them left with Exhibit A in their hands. I also stole a Features poster from the wall at Workplay. Shhh...

K-k-kkkings of Leon, babbby. Just add my drawl to it. )

Kings of Leon were all right. They played a lot of older stuff, and I just wasn't in the mood. All the newer tracks were from the beginning of Aha Shake Heartbreak. So, I did enjoy that. Jessica and I ended up in front of Matthew. Oh yes. So much fun. No eye contact whatsoever, but the boy can SHRED! He did look up once when the guy behind us yelled, "Matthew is a bad ass, and he knows it!". He confusingly glanced up to find the guy and gave a "I know I am" smirk. The guy then goes, "I think he heard me...". Yeah. Probably did. Oh, when I was filming with my camera I tried to catch Matthew's crazy feet. They were fun, and I figured set to music they would make a really great short film. Well, while I was filming his feet, Caleb waltz over and stood FREAKIN' in front of me on purpose. I was looking back at the clips, and I noticed him staring at the camera a few times. I want to think that Jared was making sexy eyes with me, but maybe it was my hot pink cardigan or that Matthew Lovin' guy behind me. You know what's sad? I checked to see if there were any sluts behind me too. Wow. Overall, it was a pretty decent set, and they LOVED the crowd. I heard someone say their mother was there as well. That would explain why when Caleb cursed he quickly apologized, and rephrased his comment. ha ha...Nice.

Caleb said that "two of the greatest Southern bands around are playing right here tonight". I think he summed it up well for the both of us.

Now, if I could just convince them to take a bath.

"She's into good vibrations, She's into radio stations..."
I can't believe it's already Wednesday. A few more days, and I'll be back at the ole university. That sounds so old chap like. I really don't want to go back, but I do. Does that make any sense? I kind of dread going back to the dorm, because I know by the middle or end of the week the whole place will be a wreck much like my life will become by the end of next week. If you only knew...

You know what, I should show you. Actions speak louder than words, right? I'll show you a before and after of the first week back. Yes, it's all so thrilling. "Keep calm, my babies!"

I went to the bookstore today to purchase my used textbooks for Western Civ II (Honors) and Survey to English Literature. I'm really excited about the English Lit book. It has Keats, Yeats, Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf and so on. I really want to read some of Woolf's novels. I'm sure I will be considering the whole female oriented studies. For Western Civ, I have to read former President Jimmy Carter's Nobel Prize Speech and Moments of Reprieve by Primo Levi. It's a memoir of Auschwitz. I'm sure it will be our critical book review. I'm hoping to do better on this one. That last one...heh Not so ace!

And that's really all I did today.

In a few short weeks, I will no longer be deprived of concert goodness. We got tickets to see the Graham Colton Band on February 19th! What? It's better than nothing! I was checking pollstar.com, and there's not any decent acts coming anywhere in the Southeast for a very long time. Except for Keane and The Zutons, but no one wants to take me to that. The Zutons...*sigh*

I was talking to Jessica the other day about practicing my violin more. I'm going to make an effort to practice at least one hour a day starting this weekend, and I will slowly progress to two or three hours. I've been lazy, and I haven't picked it up in a while. I really need to work on my counting. I kind of would like to buy some fun sheet music to practice. I don't know where I'll find it. I was recently listening to the Arcade Fire though, and the violins on there sound so amazing! I want to play soul wrenching solos on the violin. To me, those are the best pieces of music. I also like gypsy and celtic fiddling, but I'm sure my fingertips would bleed if I even attempted to play at speeds like that.

Is there something I should be doing? I'm sure there is...

A new look for a new year
Gah, it took me long enough! The new layout is finally here. You shall adore it in all its splendor, or you will just come to loathe orange and Franz Ferdinand.

I'm sure it looks like crap on other resolutions, but I'll fix it.

I haven't been up to much. Am I ever? I did see The Incredibles today. It was HI-larious! I especially loved the short film about the dancing lamb before it. I think it should have had break dancing sheep though. Tell me break dancing sheep is not funny! It's funny in my head. Moving on...

Last night, I caught Rufus Wainwright on Carson Daly's Last Call. He performed "The Art Teacher". I love that song now! I think Rufus Wainwright is an amazing musician, and that song is the perfect ballad. It's just too great! I've always liked Rufus Wainwright, but this revived my love. Good stuff.

Well, I'm trying to stay up for the Central New Year's Celebration, cause we're cool like that. Hope everyone has a nice New Year's celebration tonight and tomorrow. Be safe! Eat your black-eyed peas tomorrow. You may want some cornbread with that.

Essential Scotland

It's just too good not to mention. I got this as a Christmas gift. Yes, it's a AAA guide to Scotland, and now I will quote from it.

"Glasgow is a fine Victorian city, built on the fortunes of the British Empire. Edinburgh may be the capital of Scotland but Glasgow is its soul."

"Since it's portrayal in Alexander MacArthur and Kingsley Long's novel No Mean City as a wild, gangster-dominated place, Glasgow has reinvented itself several times."

"The Glasgow Underground, dubbed the Clockwork Orange because of the colour of the trains, is still the best way to get around the city."

Like you can't tell where I want to go.
